Twirling began in Mid-Sussex when Pam Allen & her family moved from Essex. Her eldest daughter twirled there with her school and its marching band but there was nothing like this in Burgess Hill.
So Pam started her group in 1978 with the help of Oakmeeds Community College who we were affiliated to. We were called the Oakmeeds Majorettes and began training with batons made of doweling with door stops for ends! We wore hand-made dresses & furry military-style hats my mother made and knee-high socks & plimsoles but we thought we looked just great!
In 1985 we discovered there was more to do than marching up and down and realised that you could throw your baton in the air, spinning around, dancing with baton and pom poms. We changed name for a new image and became members of the International Baton Twirling Association. Now with the help of mums who can sew and much fund-raising we have leotards and costumes that are themed to the music and look wow!

After the very sad loss of Pam in 1996, the group has been lead by her youngest daughter Elaine (now Brightey) & now even her daughter is twirling!
Our members range from 3 to 23 years of age who come from Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lindfield, Cuckfield, Handcross and we even have a member from Watford (who chose to join us when her group closed down). in 2007 we have 40 members but will always welcome more! (see membership page on how to join)
